At Okaihau RailStay, we offer all the mod cons you will need to make your stay with us relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.
Our charming vintage carriages are fully restored and decorated to the highest standard. Between them, they offer a choice of quality queen, double and single beds furnished with quality linen and towels.
You also benefit from washing-up facilities, a microwave, fridge-freezer and all the kitchen utensils you’ll need in our charming well-equipped kitchen building based on the original Okaihau Railway Station.
The toilet facilities also reflect our yesteryear theme with a new, old-style pull chain toilet. And our awesome shower is just the ticket after an action-packed day cycling the Twin Coast Cycle Trail.
Many of our guests stay with us to enjoy the delights of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail that connects Opua in the Bay of Islands in the east to Horeke on the Hokianga in the west.
To make this activity more enjoyable, we offer a Cycle Shuttle Service that takes the worry out of getting to, and returning from, your cycle destination.
For a small charge, we will drop you off at your start point in your own car and pick you up anywhere on the cycle trail to return you to your Okaihau RailStay carriage.
Please enquire when booking.
Outside, there is ample space for tents and play activities on the well-kept lawn.
If you want to enjoy al fresco dining on a warm summer’s day, you can sit at the table and chairs on the porch of the kitchen building or relax at the family-sized table and bench seats nearby.
If you are a dedicated motorhomer you will love the seclusion of our motorhome park. We have ample space for self-contained motorhomes to offer a safe and secure base for exploring the sights and attractions the area has to offer.
For a start, the Twin Coast Cycle Trail is right across the road and you are only a 20 minute drive to the Mangungu Mission House at Horeke and another 5 minutes on to the Wairere Boulders.
Head east for 22km and you will be enjoying the delights of Kerikeri with its cafes, shops and bars. Paihia and Russell (via ferry) are only a short drive further around the coast.
Wherever you want to explore in your fabulous motorhome, you can be sure of a warm welcome at Okaihau Railstay.
